Vicky Eatrides, Chair, CRTC, on cellphone services competition milestone by MVNOs

The CRTC issued a press release saying that a number of regional facilities-based wireless provider have negotiated mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) agreements with the large incumbent carriers. This will enable the MVNOs to compete with incumbents in areas of Canada where they currently do not have service available to reach new subscribers.  There are more details to come about the MVNOs, their services, and rates, but it is generally expected that the increase in competition should lead to better services and lower rates for consumers. Another good sign that the new CRTC management is working in the best interest of consumers by fostering more competition.
